A Quiet Moment with God

In offering Christian self help, we often overlook a wonderful resource in simply being quiet with God for a moment.  During our quiet time, our time just God and us, Christian self help does not come from man but from the Holy Spirit.

For a moment, let's take your problem to the Creator.  Begin by writing down the problem on a piece of paper and resting for a moment.  Holding the piece of paper with the problem written on it, simply sit, close your eyes and be open to God.  Do nothing else but spend a quiet moment with God.  Pray a simple prayer, Creator, Father, I praise you and your ability to meet my needs and help me meet my challenges.  Repeat the prayer for a moment.  At the end of the minute, rip up the piece of paper and pray the following:

God, I turn this over to you.  As the pieces scatter from my hand, so do worries of my mind.

Christiian self help for depression

Christian self help for depression is matters of helping people see themselves as a part of God’s plan.  When we are depressed, we are often lost in our mind-selves, playing out all of the old messages.  However, Christian self help for depression can be effective if we introduce Spirit Thinking to the equation.

While many spiritual qualities are available to us there are two that are especially helpful in facing down depression.  First, we must remember our spirit selves are loved.  Secondly, they are eternal.  This is true because depression usually has two roots.  Either it is present because the person suffering from depression is unaware of the amount of love available to them.  Or, it is a situational condition based upon temporary challenges.

If the Christian self help seeker expresses his or her depression in the terms of “no one cares, or no one loves me” we must empathize with that horrible, empty feeling.  Then we can slowly guide the person out of depression with concrete examples and challenges to those examples.

For example, Jane, is depressed.  Jane states no one loves her.  We must help Jane  through Christian self help by helping Jane make Spirit Thinking statements which challenge the statement.  If Jane challenges the depression thoughts with the response of “God love me perfectly just as I am”, the feeling of depression will begin to lessen.  Jane is then free to further explore the old messages creating the depression and challenging them with the truth of God’s love.

If the depression is situational, again Spirit Thinking can be a Christian self help resource.  If Stan is depressed because he has lost his job, he again can be helped by examining the self statements he is making.  If he is telling himself “I will never get another job” we must call on the quality of the Spirit which is eternal.  Because, as God’s children, we are all eternal, we must challenge self statements that say negative with positive.  “I may have lost this job, but I can be patient and wait for another opportunity.  I am eternal and have all the time in the world.”  Of course, it is a problem Stan has lost his job and he must begin a new job search, but using the quality of the Spirit of being eternal, he realizes he has the time to accomplish his goal.

Christian self help depression is helpful if the user is willing to engage the problem on a cognitive level with spiritual principles.  It is simply a matter of making the negative emotions into statements can be challenges.  Once this thinking is identified, positive thinking can be applied.  And, if that positive feeling comes from God’s quality, it’s Spirit Thinking and its ability to help is unlimited.
